English Composition 101 and 102

English Composition is offered through Jacksonville State University.  This course provides a foundation in the organizational structures of essay writing, literary analysis, and research.  Students must possess strong written and oral skills, an excellent vocabulary, and a willingness to read.  Students who successfully complete the courses will receive up to six hours of freshman composition credit.

AP English Literature and Composition

Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition focuses on analysis of literary genres.  Students need to have strong written, oral, vocabulary, and reading skills.

Tiered Assignment 1:

"Read "The Turtle" page 756. Beginning with Before you read, continuing with the author's biography, the work itself, and the questions that follow, you will do EVERYTHING listed below in this order. Everyone in your group will have the EXACT SAME ANSWERS. 

1) On your sheet of paper, answer the connecting to the essential question. Dependent clauses w/ relative pronouns. WB 53 exercise 1, 54 exercise 1.

2) Define an bold black words or phrases.

3) Bullet point three ideas from the biography. The ideas must relate to his/her work as an author. You must parenthetically document (Wiggins pg). Quote your work if you use the exact words from the books. 

4) Read the work independently or together.

5) Create a plot graph of the work.

6) Answer the critical reading questions that follow. You must write your answers in complete sentences, include quotes to support (substantiate) your points, and use parenthetical documentation (Steinbeck pg).
